This month marks a deadline that a lot of small business owners did not see coming. As of 1st July 2026, 'Small' employers in Gibraltar, businesses with between 15 and 50 staff, are now legally required to be compliant with the Private Sector Pensions Act. Micro employers, those with under 15 staff, follow next year. With that in mind, we thought it would be useful to step back and explain, in plain English, what the Act requires, who it applies to, and what businesses should do if they have not yet taken action.

Women in Enterprise welcomed members and guests to My Wines Roof Terrace on Wednesday evening for its annual Summer Social, bringing together women from across Gibraltar’s business community for an evening centred on conversation, connection and collaboration. The GFSB Business Innovation Awards are a useful reminder that innovation does not have to mean dramatic reinvention or technology-led disruption. In many cases, the most effective innovations are much simpler than that. They come from businesses paying attention to changing habits, recognising inefficiencies, and making thoughtful adjustments that improve the way they operate.

Anyone using an e-scooter on Gibraltar’s roads will soon need to register it online or risk a £300 fine, as Gibraltar’s new PLETS framework moves into its next phase. The Government has confirmed that mandatory registration for PLETS (Personal Light Electric Transporters), including e-scooters, will begin on Monday as part of wider efforts to improve road safety, accountability and enforcement.

Last week, as part of Sleep Awareness Month, the GFSB hosted its latest Health and Wellbeing session, bringing members together to explore one of the most overlooked drivers of performance: sleep. The workshop, Optimising Sleep for Health and Workplace Performance, offered practical, evidence-based insights into how sleep impacts energy, focus and long-term wellbeing.

Poor sleep habits, such as irregular bedtimes, late-night screen use, or high stress levels, can lead to fatigue, brain fog, reduced productivity, and difficulty concentrating.

It’s been a busy and productive week in London for Gibraltar’s businesses. From the City to the South Bank, the familiar lilt of Gibraltarian voices filled the air as Gibraltar’s professional and financial services providers touched down, joined this year, for the first time, by a wide range of other businesses from our broader community.

The EU's much-delayed EES border system launched this week. Spain has started testing the system at Madrid Airport before expanding it to other locations. Major airports and ports in Italy and Germany have also begun gradual implementation. According to the Gibraltar Government, the Spanish authorities will not apply the EES at the Gibraltar–Spain border.

The GFSB’s latest Wellbeing & Health in the Workplace session, Menopause & Stress: Thriving at Work, brought together a packed room of attendees at an event sponsored by Infinity Group and catered by Freska. The focus was on practical strategies for managing stress and wellbeing in the workplace during menopause.

Spain has confirmed that all goods entering Gibraltar will be routed through three “Designated Border Control Posts” in Algeciras, La Línea and either Málaga or Valencia. For GFSB members importing goods, this could mean new logistics, timings and costs to consider under the forthcoming UK–EU treaty. Exports will also need to meet EU rules.
