Month: October 2025

More major changes to residency and Gibraltarian status have been announced without any consultation with the business community.  The move comes just weeks after the Government “paused” residency applications, save those approved by CM discretion, before “clarifying” that those in Gibraltar’s economic interest would continue to be processed.

The GFSB directors were delighted to welcome His Excellency the Governor and representatives from the UK's Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office to our Jap telecom conference hall this week. A very successful meeting and as directors of the GFSB, we represent our members' views in pushing for the benefit of Gibraltar's businesses and ensuring they have a voice in shaping public policy.

The cable car isn’t just a huge tourist attraction for Gibraltar – it’s a vital part of our tourist transport infrastructure.  Just as we plan to remove the border, and enjoy what many expect to be a visitor boom, the cable car will close.  GFSB Member, tourism business operator, and Upper Rock enthusiast Stuart Hedley of EBike Gibraltar asks – what’s the plan for plugging this major gap in our tourism transport strategy? And are we underselling this amazing tourist product short by whizzing our visitors through it, rather than upselling the whole product as being worthy of a lengthy visit or even a multiple day experience?

The Gibraltar Federation of Small Businesses (GFSB) was invited to comment for a feature in iNews exploring how the recently agreed post-Brexit treaty has reignited business and lifestyle interest in Gibraltar. The article, written by Madrid-based journalist Graham Keeley, highlights a growing sense of optimism on the Rock, tempered by practical challenges such as the temporary pause in residency applications.

It’s been a busy and productive week in London for Gibraltar’s businesses. From the City to the South Bank, the familiar lilt of Gibraltarian voices filled the air as Gibraltar’s professional and financial services providers touched down, joined this year, for the first time, by a wide range of other businesses from our broader community.

At the inaugural Gibraltar Business Conference in London’s Oxo Tower, Chief Minister Fabian Picardo and Attorney General Michael Llamas outlined how the forthcoming UK–EU treaty could create new business and investment opportunities for Gibraltar.

The latest GFSB Wellness Series, sponsored by The Infinity Group, brought together medical experts and business professionals for a practical discussion on menopause in the workplace. The session, held at the Gibtelecom Conference Hall, explored how understanding menopause can improve employee wellbeing, retention and performance.

Running a business is never easy. Leading one in Gibraltar brings extra layers of complexity. Local leaders often balance ambition with uncertainty, and growth with constant change. Even with the promise of a new UK-EU Treaty on the horizon, business owners are still being tested. 2025 has seen confidence returning, but many business leaders are still navigating a climate of pressure, shifting expectations and growing responsibilities. Decision fatigue is real. For many leaders, the weight of having to get everything right while keeping the business moving can feel heavy.

Following concern over its surprise decision to pause new long-term residency applications earlier this month, the Gibraltar Government has issued a formal statement in Parliament reassuring the business community that Gibraltar remains open for investment and growth.

It started with a quick online search. I was trying to find where exactly my next meeting was on Main Street and turned to Google Street View to check the building's exterior. I found the address easily enough, but what caught my attention wasn’t the office itself. It was the virtual street around it. I noticed that several shops visible in the digital snapshot had changed. Curious, I kept scrolling through the online streetscape, mentally comparing what I saw on screen with what I knew to be true today.
