The HM Government of Gibraltar will host a full programme of events in London, bringing together leaders from finance, insurance, technology and private client sectors. The series builds on the success of Gibraltar Day in London and aims to showcase Gibraltar as a thriving hub for business, innovation and international collaboration.

The EU's much-delayed EES border system launched this week. Spain has started testing the system at Madrid Airport before expanding it to other locations. Major airports and ports in Italy and Germany have also begun gradual implementation. According to the Gibraltar Government, the Spanish authorities will not apply the EES at the Gibraltar–Spain border.

If you've been following the Spanish news, you'll know that Spain’s Foreign Minister, José Manuel Albares, appeared before the Congress of Deputies this week to explain the EU-UK agreement on Gibraltar, calling it a “historic” milestone that ends the last pending chapter of Brexit. He said the deal will bring prosperity to both sides of the border without compromising Spain’s long-standing position on sovereignty.

This week started with a leftfield surprise. The sudden publication of new regulations led to a temporary halt in the registration of new residency applications in Gibraltar. The move came without any accompanying press release or explanatory note, leaving the business community and many GFSB members in a state of confusion. It was only after follow-up coverage from GBC that additional information emerged, setting out the Government’s rationale.

We were proud to host this year’s Gibraltar Sustainable Awards in collaboration with The Nautilus Project at the Gibtelecom Conference Hall. The annual event, now in its seventh year, continues to recognise local businesses, organisations, and individuals that are leading the way in sustainability and environmental stewardship across Gibraltar.

In a surprise move, the Gibraltar Government has announced a temporary suspension of new residency applications for EEA nationals, following the publication of the Immigration (EU Exit) Regulations 2025 in the Gibraltar Gazette. The new rules, effective from 6 October, prevent the issue of new residence documents to EEA nationals who were not already registered by that date.

The GFSB’s latest Wellbeing & Health in the Workplace session, Menopause & Stress: Thriving at Work, brought together a packed room of attendees at an event sponsored by Infinity Group and catered by Freska. The focus was on practical strategies for managing stress and wellbeing in the workplace during menopause.

Spain has confirmed that all goods entering Gibraltar will be routed through three “Designated Border Control Posts” in Algeciras, La Línea and either Málaga or Valencia. For GFSB members importing goods, this could mean new logistics, timings and costs to consider under the forthcoming UK–EU treaty. Exports will also need to meet EU rules.
