HNY From GFSB
Dear Members,
Happy New Year! I hope you had a relaxing Christmas vacation period, and that you’ve had a great start to 2025. As we step into this new year, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on the achievements of 2024 and share what lies ahead for the GFSB.
Last year was a truly remarkable one for the GFSB. We relaunched our brand, website, and magazine Thrive, introduced a weekly newsletter, and organised more events and training sessions than ever before. We also welcomed Phoebe Kelly to our team as Business Manager and celebrated our most successful annual dinner in recent history. In addition, we proudly launched our first series of health and well-being events and unveiled the new Women in Enterprise (WIE) series, which has been warmly received by our members.
Looking ahead, 2025 is shaping up to be even more exciting. We are finalising key partnerships that are set to significantly enhance the GFSB’s annual income, enabling us to do even more for our members. By March, we’ll be opening our newly refurbished premises—a fresh and modern space to support our initiatives and serve as a business community hub for members.
We are also expanding our training and education offerings through strategic partnerships with Gibraltar based foundation. I am particularly excited to launch a dedicated Self-Employed Group, which will focus on the specific needs of Gibraltar’s self-employed entrepreneurial community.
Behind the scenes, we’re continuing to refine our systems and policies to ensure we provide the best possible service to you. Lookout for website changes and content soon. If you have not yet checked out our community spaces, and networking tools on GlueUp – January couldn’t be a better month.
Member engagement and support are at the heart of everything we do. Together, we are building the GFSB into Gibraltar’s leading business organisation—a place where small businesses can start, grow and thrive.

Freight Delays Bite
Imports including medicines, fresh produce and other commercial goods faced significant delays as businesses and Customs adjusted to the Treaty’s new frontier procedures, with some freight reportedly held since the arrangements began on 15 July. The disruption is the clearest early warning that documentation errors and unfamiliar processes can quickly affect stock availability, perishable goods and operating costs across Gibraltar’s retail and wholesale sectors.

What a Week!
Over the past two years, I must have written more words about the Treaty than almost any other subject. Through the Thrive EDIT, I've tried to cut through the politics and focus on what really matters to Gibraltar's business community. We've unpacked customs guidance, explained residency proposals, questioned support measures, covered Government announcements, highlighted members' concerns and, where necessary, asked awkward questions on your behalf. The aim has always been the same: to make one of the biggest economic changes in Gibraltar's history feel just a little easier to understand.

Since September 2025, we've delivered 34 events attended by 1,329 members and guests, with the vast majority offered free of charge as part of GFSB membership.
