IWD26: Give to Gain
Women in Enterprise marked International Women’s Day yesterday with a well-attended event hosted at the headquarters of ISOLAS LLP, a longstanding supporter of the initiative. ISOLAS has consistently opened its doors to Women in Enterprise events and continues to support the group’s work to champion gender equality, professional development and the advancement of women in business across Gibraltar.
The event was opened by Deputy Governor Marc Holland, who reflected on his experiences in the Foreign Office and the evolving role of women in leadership. He praised Gibraltar’s “enlightened” education strategy, noting that it is helping to create a more equitable society and opening the door for more women to succeed in business. ISOLAS Partner, Emma Lejeune reflected on the significance of International Women’s Day and the importance of creating spaces where honest conversations about leadership, growth and opportunity can take place. “I’m a firm believer that when you put in the effort, you see the rewards,” she told the audience, encouraging attendees to remain focused on long-term progress rather than short-term comparisons.
She also spoke about the growing gap between perception and reality in a world shaped by social media. Platforms such as Instagram, she noted, often present a polished, two-dimensional version of success, rarely showing the persistence, setbacks and hard work that happen behind the scenes. Against that backdrop, the event embraced this year’s International Women’s Day theme, Give to Gain, with a series of talks and breakout discussions featuring Aine Panter, Paul Ford, Rebecca Figueras, Marlene Dalli and Ron Wagemakers exploring how sharing experience, time and insight can strengthen both individuals and the wider business community.

Freight Delays Bite
Imports including medicines, fresh produce and other commercial goods faced significant delays as businesses and Customs adjusted to the Treaty’s new frontier procedures, with some freight reportedly held since the arrangements began on 15 July. The disruption is the clearest early warning that documentation errors and unfamiliar processes can quickly affect stock availability, perishable goods and operating costs across Gibraltar’s retail and wholesale sectors.
