The GFSB Executive Series recently hosted a compelling Leadership Journey session, featuring an unfiltered, peer-to-peer conversation between two distinguished C-Suite executives: Gerry Kelly, Group CEO of Sovereign Trust, and Pete Yeoman, Chair of Vistage Gibraltar. This engaging event attracted business professionals eager for genuine insights into leadership decisions, growth and the complexities of managing today’s organisations.
Gerry Kelly, with a rich background in international financial services, has significantly shaped the landscape of Gibraltar’s financial sector. Beginning his career as a chartered accountant, he has since climbed the ranks through various prestigious roles in asset management and private banking across the Isle of Man and Jersey. Joining Sovereign Trust in 2002, Gerry was appointed Group CEO in 2018, overseeing the company’s diversification into insurance brokerage and retirement planning, as well as leading geographic expansion initiatives.
In his role as host, Pete Yeoman drew upon over 30 years of experience in banking and leadership development. As Chair of Vistage Gibraltar, he facilitates confidential peer forums, helping CEOs make better decisions under pressure. During the session, Gerry and Pete explored leadership from the inside out, offering practical wisdom and sharing valuable lessons that resonate with all business professionals, from seasoned CEOs to startup founders navigating complex challenges.
The event provided attendees with a unique opportunity to engage in meaningful dialogue about leadership, resilience, and decision making in an ever evolving business environment. Both Kelly and Yeoman emphasised the importance of authenticity in leadership, encouraging participants to embrace transparency and foster open communications within their organisations.

Freight Delays Bite
Imports including medicines, fresh produce and other commercial goods faced significant delays as businesses and Customs adjusted to the Treaty’s new frontier procedures, with some freight reportedly held since the arrangements began on 15 July. The disruption is the clearest early warning that documentation errors and unfamiliar processes can quickly affect stock availability, perishable goods and operating costs across Gibraltar’s retail and wholesale sectors.

Over the past two years, I must have written more words about the Treaty than almost any other subject. Through the Thrive EDIT, I've tried to cut through the politics and focus on what really matters to Gibraltar's business community. We've unpacked customs guidance, explained residency proposals, questioned support measures, covered Government announcements, highlighted members' concerns and, where necessary, asked awkward questions on your behalf. The aim has always been the same: to make one of the biggest economic changes in Gibraltar's history feel just a little easier to understand.
