Can you provide an overview of your professional background including key positions?
With a background in architecture and urban planning, I founded GreenCode, a consultancy dedicated to sustainable urban development. Our mission is to assist homeowners and developers in managing and extending the lifecycle of their properties.Over the past 15 years in Gibraltar, I have collaborated on a diverse range of projects, from refurbishing smaller colonial buildings to designing and developing luxury properties, including Buena Vista Park Villas, Midtown, and North Gorge.Internationally, my work spans small community-led initiatives and large-scale regeneration schemes across Myanmar, Italy, London, Austria, and Egypt. I partner with clients and their teams to identify ways to maximise the value of their built and natural assets, aligning with their brand and requirements.Currently, I am pursuing a PhD focused on quantifying the impacts of rising damp in heritage buildings to inform lifecycle costing and local preventive maintenance policies.
What are some of your personal interests or hobbies outside of work?
I am a singer and lover of jazz, performing at different gigs across Gibraltar to switch off from the business mindset. I also enjoy the gym, yoga, mid-distance running and art.
What are some of the biggest challenges you have faced in your career, and what lessons have you learned from them?
It has been a challenge to strike a balance between work and other aspects of life. As with any business, there are risks and rewards with the need to run checks and balances on a regular basis to ensure all is on track. One cannot risk to drop the ball, and the need to innovate is a constant, which risks burnout. The more enjoyable side for me though which makes all of this worth it, is the introspection, learning and flexibility when it comes to where you dedicate your time.
